International Open Shorn Fleece Competition
The Futurity group invites all alpaca owners to enter their fleeces into a world class judged competition. The competition is open to all UK and European alpaca owners.
For these classes there will be no restriction on lineage of the alpaca whose fleece you enter. All entries will be accepted regardless of the alpaca’s parentage.
Judging will take place on the day before the Futurity opens, and all place and ribbon winning entries will be on full display in the main entrance of the venue throughout both days of the event.
Classes will be open for all colours in both Huacaya and Suri up to adult classification of under 48 months.
Rosettes awarded depending on class numbers. Champion and Reserve sashes will be awarded for each colour section with the best in show Futurity Fleece Champions awarded for Huacaya and Suri.
Presentations to the owners of the Futurity champion fleeces will be made during the evening dinner on Saturday 12th March 2011.
Fleece entries must be made using the entry form or online through the BAS Registry.
Judge and Steward
The Futurity 2011 Fleece judges will be Matt and Cathy Lloyd (UK).
Age Groups
Junior Fleeces: under 12 months of age at time of shearing;
Intermediate Fleeces: 12 months to under 24 months at time of shearing;
Adult Fleeces: 24 months to under 48 months at time of shearing
Fleece Preparation
Fleeces should be skirted of all short, stained and any extremely coarse fibre. Heavy vegetable matter should also be removed. Poorly prepared fleeces will receive penalties throughout the fleece judging.
Fleece Delivery Details
Fleece entries should not be packaged and delivered until entry tickets have been received from the organisers. This entry ticket must be included inside the fleece bag. A full list of delivery points will be sent to all exhibitors along with the entry ticket.
Fleece Show Rules
The British Alpaca Futurity Fleece competition will be run under BAS show rules in force at the time of the event and judged according to the BAS fleece judging manual 2008 edition, or those deemed to be current at the time and date of the show.
Please note the following:
- Any fleece entered must have been sheared in the 18 months prior to the event
- Entries are restricted to one fleece per alpaca, which must be the most recently sheared fleece
- All fleeces being shown must be the property of the exhibitor, prime fibre only, skirted, displayed cut side out and presented in clear polythene bags with no farm identification. Paper or solid colour refuse bags are not acceptable
- Huacaya fleece must have minimum staple length of 50mm (2 inches) and a maximum of 150mm (6 inches) First fleeces in junior and intermediate classes have no maximum length limit
- Suri fleece must have minimum staple length of 75mm (3 inches) and a maximum of 450mm (18 inches). First fleeces in junior and intermediate classes have no maximum length limit
- Fleeces within the display cannot be removed until the main event ends at 5pm on Saturday 12th March 2011, and must be removed no later 1pm on Sunday 13th March 2011
