British Alpaca Futurity 2009

Halter Show Classes

Under the Futurity system all entries must be progeny of a sire whose owners have nominated him for the Futurity and paid the appropriate fee. All such nominated herd sires must be resident in the UK and a list will be available on the website. Alternatively exhibitors should approach directly the sire owners to verify nomination before making their entries.

Should an exhibitor wish to make an entry for which the sire owner is unwilling or unable to nominate, then application to enter can be made upon paying a nomination waiver fee of £100. Please refer to option 3 under Herd Sire Nomination.

Judged show classes will be held for all colours in Huacaya and Suri up to the adult classification of less than 48 months of age. Rosettes are awarded depending on class numbers. Champion and Reserve sashes will be awarded for each colour section. Substantial prize money is paid for all rosette and sash placings. In addition the Futurity will pay to the owners of the nominated sires a total of 10% of all winnings made by their progeny throughout the show.

The Futurity 2009 Champion will be awarded to the nominated sire whose progeny have won the most prize money throughout the show.

The Futurity 2009 Junior Herd Sire will be awarded to the nominated sire who has no UK registered progeny born before 27th February 2007 and whose progeny have won the most prize money throughout the show. Owners nominating herd sires eligible for this award must tick the box on the entry form. Confirmation of status will be verified with the BAS registry.

A Most Successful Small Breeder award will also be made to the most successful exhibitor at the show who owns no more than 30 breeding females aged 18 months or over prior to 27th February 2009. Exhibitors eligible for this award must tick the box indicated on the entry form. Confirmation of status will be verified with the BAS Registry.

Penning will be available for all exhibitors and the Futurity will assign appropriate penning for all alpacas according to numbers and sex. Bedding will be provided but exhibitors must provide their own feed and water containers and be responsible at all times for the welfare of their alpacas.

Farm banners will only be permitted to be fixed to the penning sides, if such space is available. Owners must not utilise any part of their allocated penning as a farm promotional space. Alpaca owners may apply for official Farm Promotional Pens, which will be placed adjacent to where their alpacas are penned. Such application must be made on the appropriate form found in the forms section. Additional space for farm banners will also be provided along the back wall of the venue and application to do so must be made on the appropriate booking form.

Would handlers please note the Futurity dress code when handling alpacas in the show ring will be black trousers with white shirt. No white overcoats or training shoes (Trainers) will be allowed.

The Futurity 2009 judge will be Amanda VandenBosch (USA) Show Secretary Mary-Jo Smith and Chief Steward Iain Smith.
